17 September 2011 - Kiseki, again...

Miss Glutton wanted to have sashimi after browsing the fancy stores for a couple of hours. The most convenient place that came to mind was Kiseki. This is getting boring already...

Saw this guy on their way to the food hunt.

Trying out a new way of presenting the images, especially when many of them are out of focus. Something's wrong with him nowadays. Maybe it's the stress.

Assorted sashimi and the crabs

Yakimono, agemono and other cooked stuff. Don't remember having oysters of any sort in Kiseki before...

Mash of dessert, also the first time he's had so much dessert at one go.

Featuring her pictures too...

Assorted sashimi...

"Whole" crab, after seeing it in halves so many times.

"Whole" crayfish, didn't enjoy this as much as the prawns. Meat tasted plain.

Sauteed scallops

The item in between lady's finger and cocktail sausages was tasty and fragrant. Reminded him of sate lilit in Bali, fish paste slapped onto a stick of lemon grass and grilled.

A more "wholesome" yakimono picture of quail egg sticks

Desserts attack

Marshmallows in pudding?

Another plateful of dessert she polished off.

3 scoops of ice cream, nice. So much for being weight-conscious.

27 Mar 2011 - SourMilk and Just Acia

Headed out to SourMilk on Sunday to redeem the last voucher they had. This time, she wanted to try and break the 260 grams limit that the cup was said to hold. Lo and behold, she got ~272 grams, 50 grams more than the previous time they visited. This time, they had green tea, tangerine and the original flavours. Looking at the topping makes him wonder if this has gone unhealthy.

After walking around town and causing some financial damage, her stomach took over. He initially suggested Fish and Co beside Park Mall, but both of them wanted to try something new instead. They came to the Dhoby Gaut underpass and got seated at Just Acia. Set meals came with free flow of drinks and ice cream, how good is that?

Looking at each other while waiting for the food... so he took a picture of the mugs.

His Mushroom Aglio Olio wa served first. This was watery instead of being oily. The garlic were also dry and clumped at the side. Didn't enjoy it.

Bulgogi set had deliciously marinated meat. This tasted much better than the spaghetti.

Soft-serve ice cream, 1 round for her and 3 rounds for him. There was only one young waiter doing the rounds at their area, that's why the empty plate was still in the background.

Scoops of different flavored ice cream - corn, yam, mango tangerine and strawberry.

27 Feb 2011 - Pepper Lunch and SourMilk frozen yoghurt

She never liked to eat yoghurt. However, when BigDeal.sg had this "deal" for frozen yoghurt at SourMilk, Far East Plaza, she kept nagging at him to buy. How weird.

Here's what they had, original and chocolate topped with strawberries slices, blueberry mochi, KitKat, water melon, MnM's and probably more. The original flavour was sweet and sour, his type of taste (think mangoes, sour plums). Her choice of chocolate was bitter and sour, quite a weird combination to him at least, so he let her finish it all. The blueberry mochi was the most pleasing of the toppings, sweet and chewy.

Probably an hour before that, she wanted to expend the $5 Pepper Lunch voucher in their possession. The regular Big Rib-eye for her, while he had Seafood Aglio Olio.

Instead of the salad, he opted for some ice cream, black sesame and caramel flavours. She finished hers in double quick time and pretended to ask him about the flavour he was having. Yeah, so he let her tax some from his cup. Hahahaha

14 Nov 2010 - Yuki Yaki

He saw Citibank 1 for 1 Sunday dinner buffet at Indulge at Grand Park, Grand Park Hotel City Hall. Nothing's free in this world, better check if the deal's still on. He tried calling the listed numbers restaurant reservation, hotel reception, and none of his calls were picked up. Adopted an apprehensive approach and reached the restaurant at 4+pm, where the reservations counter was manned by one lady. They stood in front of her while she was very busy answering 2 telephones that kept ringing, jotting down room service details, etc.

Tired of standing, he approached the hotel reception for help, which couldn't help out in any way. After what seemed like eternity, the desk phone finally stopped ringing and the tired restaurant reservations lady asked what they wanted. He then asked to reserve seating for 2, and she immediately informed them that the Citibank promo quota had been reached. It sounded very nonsensical to him at that moment, and he decided so have dinner elsewhere instead.

Grand Park Hotel City Hall lobby, the only thing we got out of the trip there.

It was a rainy day, and she was unhappy that she didn't get to have her international buffet. Perhaps they should have just continued with the plan. In any case, it was still 1.5 hours to dinner, so he decided for them to try something more novel.

Got over to Marina Square and checked themselves into Yuki Yaki. It's been around for years but it's his first time eating there. Supposed to be a 2-hour buffet and 0.5 hour DIY ice cream session.

Started off with fried salmon skin, octopus, nuggets and some sushi.

The attentive young waitress set up the barbecue for them, and left some butter to melt.

The master grilling the different marinated beef

After one grill, the foil would have become charred. To minimise wastage of the foil, they grilled seafood on it before having it changed. The mussels were OK but the bamboo clams were too fishy.

Her favourite snack/appetiser of pickled seaweed.

His - salmon sashimi.

After the foil change, she fought for her turn to grab the food. Salmon chunks, chicken wings mid-joints and more beef.

The second round of sashimi - she liked the prawns while he found them a little squishy, mushy...

Twin-sharing pot of herbal chicken soup and miso soup. She brought over 2 large servings of vegetables and mushrooms nonchalantly, claiming it would be easy to finish them. Guess what? He ended up having to be the receptacle.

After 2 hours of struggle, it was time to switch the hot plate for the cold plate. Ice cream making time! Their waitress transferred them to another table so that they could start making ice cream in a shorter time, instead of waiting for their hot plate to cool.

Let the games begin! DIY ice cream, they played like kids. Choco-mint mix in this picture.

Either chocolate or cappuccino, can't remember.

Mint ice cream

The making of vanilla ice cream. Spread the ice cream on the cold plate, sprinkle in toppings, let it cool for a bit before moulding.

One eyed skull ice cream drawing which they left for a long while, forgetting to flip. Tasted more of ice than cream.

Durian ice cream

Moulding the chocolate ice cream into a rectangular shape.

When it was time to call it a day, they realised that they had been in the restaurant for 3.5 hours. So tough on the stomach... and health probably took a hit.

marvellous cream, beef rice and mooncakes

on this saturday, badminton was again called off, and the trip to bukit timah hill didn't materialise. left with not much choices, they headed down to town.

alighted at city hall, and headed to suntec city. whilst walking through citylink mall, her suddenly sharp eyes noticed that marvellous cream was selling their original series ice-cream for $4.90, even on weekends. too tired of explaining priorities to her, they just went in to get 1 chocolate sienne.

saw the ice-cream lady weigh the scoop of ice-cream, and then proceed to bash the ice-cream on the thermoplate. she chopped some chocolate into bits, wedged them into the ice-cream, drizzled chocolate syrup and started her left-right-centre martial arts on the ice-cream.

the result, marvellous cream's chocolate sienne, junior size. well, the cream (said to be milk from hokkaido?) tasted really good, and the chocolate was very rich. he enjoyed it, but would not like to have it everytime he walks past the shop.

after shopping, they found themselves with stuff from carrefour. chocolate noir and muesli cereals, and sesame burger buns for the next day onwards. cost him around $14 in all. they headed back to ang mo kio s-11 for the korean-style beef rice.

cost $4 a bowl, comes with soup and pickled cabbage. a welcoming color combination, and the thinly sliced beef was just delicious.

pickled cabbage and fried fry

after dinner, they headed to amk hub for her cause. to get some mooncakes. had a hard time finding yam ones in town, and the one at the fair in ngee ann city still cost $36 for a box for 9 minis. too tired to scour anymore lanes, they bought 4 pieces from a temporary stall's fat auntie. durian, sesame, pandan and yam. $20 for all.

durian mooncake with 2 egg yolks. all of them look similar, except for the color and wording, which state single or double yolk.

that wasn't all the damage. they went to ntuc and got iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, prune juice, black pepper ham and cheese. cost $20+. stay tuned for the next post...
