met up with her friend who just flew in from sydney. had lunch at pepper lunch, aglio olio for the australian, and ribeye for the greedy couple. somehow, pictures are missing.
went in and out of shops along the whole stretch of road and god-knows-how-many shopping malls, before the ladies got tired and requested for dinner. headed to the basement foodcourt of orchard central, towards centre point.
eight treasures duck vermicelli soup $4 - one each for the ladies, both claimed to have the same taste in fashion and now, food even. they liked their meal.
the male service personnel from china was very unhygienic though. instead of serving the bowl with bowl hands supporting the outside, he used one hand to pinch the side of the bowl with his thumb in the middle and touched the soup. yuck.
his bowl of "gold medallion" beef noodles $6 - beef was very cold, but the noodle was smooth. nothing special to warrant the price tag.
never going to re-patronise stalls with unhygienic staff.

25 September 2010 - ramen from go! go! curry
she wanted to try out the ramen after curry rice the previous week, so they returned to 313's food republic and revisited Go! Go! Curry.
Tokyo Ramen - $11.50
soup was too salty, you get half a nitamago as compared to tampopo. suppose it's what they say, you get what you pay for. she didn't like the noodles either.
something-Tonkotsu Ramen - $9.50
he found the soup salty too, couldn't finish it like the bowl from tampopo. the curly noodles had a smooth texture, but he still prefers straight strands.

19 September 2010 homecooked fare
purple tint rice - looks pretty, doesn't it? caused by placing purple sweet potatoes in the top steamer compartment while cooking rice. the sweet potato sweat dripped down onto the pristine rice bits and colored them so.
corn and potato pork ribs soup, his perennial favourite. these vegetables and bone make really good soup.
the overcooked meat strips with garlic sprouts and carrot strips. she insisted on cooking over high heat for a prolonged period of time, rendering the meat tough as rubber.

18 September 2010 go go curry grandslam
12 Sep 2010 - homecooked and tampopo ramen
stir fried shanghai greens - he added just one table spoon of oyster sauce, so it tasted a little bland.. oops
braised chicken wing midjoints - she got the balance right, and these were well marinated, except for the fact that too much honey was added that a lot of it was leftover in the wok
later, they went for dinner at takashimaya's tampopo.
ordered sake sashimi for starter's while waiting for the kuro buta ramen. color looked a little more pinkish that orange, but it was smooth and succulent.
finally, the kuro buta ramen. see the orange lump near the top right? regretted mixing that roe into the soup, should have just nibbled at it. quite a fair bit was still stuck at the bottom of the bowl even after finishing the soup...
lava egg! seen this many times but first time eating it, probably why it got badly bitten. hahahha
